Kindergarten is a period of tremendous cognitive growth. Children at this age are undergoing a large amount of change very quickly and are learning to see the world in many new and interesting ways. However, it’s also important to realize that even at this early stage, there are fundamental skills that children need to acquire in order to be successful later in life. Here are just a few of the cognitive skills kids learn at Aachi’s Kidz World in order to be successful throughout their schooling.
Learning to identify letters in the alphabet and their sounds, and about letters and sounds that go together to form words
Reading and writing words and simple sentences
Speaking in short sentences (5 to 6 words long) and speaking them clearly enough to be understood most of the time
Able to pay attention for 15 to 20 minutes
Telling a story in sequential order
Distinguishing between a story and a fact
Knowing the components of a calendar and how to build on them – days, weeks, months, and some basic time on the 12-hour clock, recognize numbers up to 100 and count, write to 100, and some basic single-digit addition and subtraction
Learning about colours, shapes, plants, animals, good health habits, weather, the five senses and basics about their bodies
Broadening their field to look at different families, cultures, the neighborhood and the community
Understanding and following multi-step directions
